Complete the assignment

For a North Carolina title, complete the ownership assignment and have it notarized. Include the buyer, sale date, seller details and required mileage and damage disclosures. Out-of-state titles follow their issuing state’s requirements.

What details belong in the assignment?

Check the buyer’s name and address, sale date, printed seller name, signatures and any required odometer and damage disclosures against the actual transaction. Confirm which originals the purchasing partner needs before pickup.

Agree the handover details

Confirm the purchasing business, amount and collection address. Have your identification ready and explain a lien or any ownership mismatch before scheduling.

Keep a record

Retain copies of the signed documents and payment record. Remove personal belongings and follow the plate-return guidance after the sale.
