Separate the payoff from the offer
Ask your lender for the current payoff and release instructions. Your vehicle offer and the amount owed are separate figures. Agree how any outstanding balance will be resolved before signing the transfer.
Paper and electronic records follow different routes
TxDMV explains that a paper-title lien removal requires the title, the lender’s release documentation and Form 130-U. An electronic lien is removed through the lender’s coordination with TxDMV; the owner does not perform that electronic release.
Check the release and delivery
TxDMV says the lender has 10 days after receiving payoff to release the lien. After an electronic release, the record converts to a paper title mailed to the recorded owner or third party. Confirm the delivery details with the lender before arranging the sale.
Keep the lender documents
Retain the payoff confirmation, release and transfer records. Tell the purchasing partner if you are still waiting for the title. A missing certificate and an unresolved lien need different steps.
