Scrapping has a permanent consequence
DOR states that a vehicle scrapped, demolished or used for parts cannot be repaired or legally driven. Agree whether the transaction is for permanent dismantling rather than assuming every damaged car is already scrap.
The purchasing business has reporting duties
Salvage dealers, including secondary metals recyclers, parts dealers and scrap processors, report title cancellation and NMVTIS information through Auto Data Direct under DOR’s procedure.
An owner submission follows separate instructions
DOR also describes the less common owner submission with the original Georgia title and a signed vehicle-description statement. Follow the department’s plate instructions if a plate was left on the vehicle; do not send an out-of-state title through this Georgia-title route.
Retain the handover record
Ask the purchasing business which documents it needs and keep a copy of the completed transaction. Cancel your registration using the applicable seller process as well.
