Distinguish repair from rebuilt status
A repaired salvage vehicle does not automatically acquire a rebuilt title. Georgia requires the applicable inspection and title process, including for certain out-of-state brands.
Keep evidence before repairs
DOR requires pre-repair photographs and documentation of parts and labor for a salvage-to-rebuilt application. It states that anyone buying a salvage or wrecked vehicle to restore must be a licensed rebuilder. Review that requirement before buying a project.
Plan inspection before painting
A restored vehicle must pass the required inspection before painting. DOR lists separate application instructions for state and approved private inspectors, and another route for an existing out-of-state rebuilt title.
Compare the unfinished project with an offer
If you no longer want to complete the work, describe the vehicle and title as they are today. Explain missing parts and any repairs already completed. Keep the salvage and rebuilt records available for the purchasing partner.
