Identify the estate documents
Georgia’s requirements distinguish Letters of Testamentary, Year’s Support and the inheritance-affidavit route. Gather the title, death certificate and applicable estate documents for the County Tag Office.
Some heirs must title the car first
DOR says an inheritor using T-20 must obtain a title in their own name before selling. It also requires prior titling where the inheritor does not have Letters of Testamentary. Do not assume possession of the car allows immediate reassignment.
Missing titles and mileage matter
Where an estate title is missing, the required route depends in part on odometer disclosure. Ask the county office to review the documents before the executor signs a bill of sale or applies for a title.
Confirm who will attend pickup
Tell the purchasing partner who has authority to sign and who will release the vehicle. Resolve the paperwork first so collection and payment can be agreed with the appropriate person.
