Identify the exact error
Compare the ownership document with the vehicle VIN and owner records. Note which entry is incorrect and retain the original document. Do not erase entries or use correction fluid while trying to fix the record.
Ask whether REG 101 applies
DMV’s Statement of Error or Erasure procedure covers errors on California or nonresident titles. Explain who entered the information and what needs correction so the processing office can identify the required statement and signatures.
Check mileage separately
Odometer corrections have their own disclosure requirements. Ask the office about the mileage statement rather than assuming a general error form resolves it. Keep the buyer informed while preparing accepted transfer documents.
