Which form addresses a name change?
PennDOT directs name corrections and changes to Form MV-41A. Its name-change service also explains updating your driver’s license or photo identification. Tell the agent whether the difference follows marriage, divorce, a court order or a typographical error so the supporting evidence matches the request.
When is MV-41 relevant?
MV-41 covers specified vehicle-record corrections and VIN verification. Its VIN correction instructions are limited, including certain one-digit errors, transposed digits or an engine number incorrectly used as the VIN. It is not a universal cure for any ownership discrepancy. A modified vehicle may require another route.
What if someone wrote in the wrong assignment box?
Stop before making more entries. Show the agent the actual document and explain who wrote the information and whether a transfer already occurred. Do not erase names, use correction fluid or sign another person’s name. Ask for the evidence and correction process appropriate to that error.
How can you keep pickup from being delayed?
Compare the title with your identification and the vehicle’s VIN before agreeing a handover date. Tell the buyer about the discrepancy when requesting an offer. Keep copies of correction submissions and arrange collection after the required document route is established.
