How do I check a dismantler?
DMV’s regulated-business search includes dismantlers and businesses processing vehicles for scrap or parts. Search by business type and ZIP code or county, or use the business’s seven-digit facility number. Compare the returned address and business type with the party buying the vehicle.
Does every towing business appear in that search?
DMV says the service excludes vehicle transporters and several other categories. A missing result is not proof of wrongdoing. Identify the actual purchaser separately from the transporting company and ask DMV about the applicable category when the result is unclear.
What should match before I sign?
Match the named purchaser on the ownership assignment and sale record to the agreed transaction. Ask who will pay you and who will receive the vehicle. Do not sign a blank buyer field or assume that the driver’s trading name is the purchasing entity.
What records help if something goes wrong?
Retain the offer, completed transfer documents, payment record and business contact details. DMV’s complaint page explains which regulated businesses it oversees and how to supply a complaint. Use the documented transaction details when asking for help.
