Selling a Florida car through an authorized representative

If the owner cannot attend, establish the representative’s authority and the correct signature process before collection.

Describe the transaction before choosing a form

Tell the office who owns the car, who will sign, whether the title is available and whether an odometer disclosure is required. Those details determine which power-of-attorney process is appropriate.

Understand the scope of HSMV 82053

HSMV 82053 can authorize an odometer disclosure for the buyer or the seller, but the same representative cannot sign for both sides. The form points to secure HSMV 82995 when a lienholder holds the title or it is lost. Ask the processing office which authorization fits your transaction before completing it.

Check the document requirements

FLHSMV’s TL-02 procedure addresses ordinary and secure power-of-attorney situations. Ask the office about the required original or certified document and identity evidence before sending a representative. Do not sign another person’s name without an accepted authorization.

Keep estate and business ownership separate

A deceased owner, trust or company may require evidence of authority beyond an ordinary personal-sale arrangement. Use the ownership guide to identify the situation, then obtain the appropriate document checklist.

Official sources and next steps.

Use the current instructions for your particular title and transaction. A tax collector or FLHSMV can confirm document requirements; an estate or ownership dispute may require legal advice.
