Do not present someone else’s car as yours
A vehicle’s presence on your land does not establish that you can sign its ownership documents. If you are the property owner rather than the titled owner, explain that distinction when seeking help. Do not use an owner-sale enquiry as a substitute for establishing authority.
Private-property towing has separate rules
Florida section 715.07 allows an owner, lessee or authorized property representative to arrange removal of an unauthorized vehicle through a towing business. Posted notice normally applies; the statute has exceptions for property clearly belonging to a single-family residence and specified personal-notice situations. Local governments may impose additional rules. Ask the operator to identify the applicable authorization and notice route before removal.
Separate the property owner’s preparation from the operator’s duties
Record the address, your authority over the property, where the car is parked and any notice already given. The towing operator must notify the municipal police, or the sheriff in an unincorporated area, within 30 minutes after completing the removal. That reporting duty does not transfer ownership to you or authorize you to sell the vehicle.
Removal and title acquisition are different tasks
Permission to arrange removal should not be treated as ownership or permission to sell the car for scrap. Avoid inventing a waiting period after which it becomes yours. Ask the relevant authority about lawful next steps and any required notices.
If the vehicle is yours but stored elsewhere
Contact the property manager, repair shop or storage operator to establish access and release terms. Tell the buyer where it is held, whether charges are accruing and who must authorize release. Keep records of the arrangements.
