BAR retirement is a separate program

The Bureau of Automotive Repair operates a Consumer Assistance Program with vehicle-retirement eligibility requirements. It is not the same as selling to Cash For Cars LLC. Check the current program requirements and available assistance directly with BAR.

Apply before using the program

BAR reviews applications and provides eligibility instructions to approved applicants. Retirement takes place through a BAR-contracted dismantler under the program’s conditions. A private collection arrangement does not establish program approval.

Check how the vehicle must reach the facility

BAR’s retirement guidance says the vehicle must be driven to the contracted dismantler and meet its applicable checks. A non-running car may not fit that route. Compare the actual requirements with a private offer that includes towing before making your decision.
