A salvage certificate has a specific role
California DMV can issue a Salvage Certificate for a vehicle declared a total loss salvage. Insurer involvement and ownership evidence affect the application. Establish who controls the vehicle before agreeing to another sale.
Nonrepairable is a different status
DMV states that a vehicle issued a Nonrepairable Vehicle Certificate cannot subsequently be titled or reregistered for use in California. Do not present that document as equivalent to a repairable salvage vehicle.
Describe the actual document
Give the prospective purchaser the exact certificate type and known condition. Ask which ownership evidence and signatures it requires, and resolve any insurer or lender interest before collection.
